The 15 types of abortion and their characteristics

When it comes to abortion, there are many circumstances that can occur , and the different types of abortions and their characteristics depend on many factors. These are sometimes controllable and sometimes not.

In the most general classification, one could differentiate between spontaneous and induced abortion, but there are many more considerations that are worth analyzing. Each and every one of the situations that can be related to an abortion is represented below.

1. Miscarriage

In spontaneous or natural abortion or there is voluntariness . The fetus dies unintentionally, and it is usually not until 24 weeks after conception that preterm labor is called (regardless of fetal death).

2. Induced abortion

Induced abortion is intentionally caused . It is therefore opposite to the case of spontaneous abortion, there are many possibilities for an abortion to be induced. Throughout the article you can see different types of induced abortion.

3. Unavoidable abortion

Inevitable abortion is characterized by being impossible to avoid . Before it happens, unequivocal symptoms are observed that it will end up happening, but there is no way to stop the causes that cause it from giving rise to the death of the fetus.

4. Complete abortion

To speak of a complete abortion is to speak of the total expulsion of the fetus . The exit of the tissues that constitute the fetus leave the woman’s body completely, signifying the end of the pregnancy and the life of the embryo.

5. Incomplete abortion

Incomplete abortion involves the partial expulsion of tissue from the fetus . When a woman has an incomplete miscarriage there can be prolonged bleeding and a lot of associated pain. You have to go quickly to the emergency room to receive medical attention.

6. Missed abortion

The missed abortion means that there is death of the fetus but the tissues remain inside . It is absolutely necessary for the woman to go to the emergency room to remove the fetus from the body. A lifeless fetus in the womb endangers the life of the mother, and can cause bleeding and infection.

8. Repeated abortion

Repeat abortion refers to the fact that a woman has suffered more than one abortion . This circumstance generates a lot of frustration for the person and also for their partner, and has psychological effects that sometimes require the consultation of a specialist in psychotherapy.

9. Chemical abortion

Chemical abortion is a type of induced abortion . It is one of the ways to cause an abortion by a medical team, and it is based on the interruption of pregnancy by means of drugs that stop the gestation of the fetus. It is considered the method that gives more effectiveness and safety for women.

12. Eugenic abortion

Eugenic abortion is a type of induced abortion . The reason why the pregnancy is terminated is that genetic abnormalities are observed in the fetus. One of the best known chromosomal diseases is Down Syndrome, but there are many more.

The term legal abortion refers to the fact that an abortion is legally acceptable . In most countries of the southern hemisphere, abortion is legal, although there are numerous exceptions. On the other hand, in most countries of the southern hemisphere it is an illegal practice.

14. Illegal abortion

When abortion is illegal in a country, women are forced to have the baby . This is considered by the majority of the population of developed countries as an attack on the rights of the mother. However, abortion is illegal in most countries in areas such as Central and South America, Africa, and South Asia.

15. Unsafe abortion

Unsafe abortion is one that is carried out clandestinely . In countries where abortion is illegal, many pregnant women are exposed to dangerous practices for their health with the sole objective of not being mothers of a child they did not expect. This happens in countries like Poland, Mexico, Argentina or Colombia.
