12 endangered animals (worldwide)

Dr. David DiesNovember 6, 2022November 24, 2022
The extinction of species means a loss of biodiversity . Over millions of years, many forms of life have evolved from the first multicellular organisms.

Unfortunately, today there is the so-called sixth mass extinction. The person responsible for this natural nonsense is none other than the human being. Through its activity, it is managing to eliminate many animals in danger of extinction in the world that are already in a critical situation.

12 animals in danger of extinction around the world (critical situation)

In many animal species only a few individuals remain . There are many animals in danger of extinction in the world that live in this critical situation, and the loss of the few individuals that remain may mean their end.

Some of the animals shown below are large and majestic mammals, while others are amphibians or other types of animals that go more unnoticed. But without a doubt they are all part of the precious treasure that represents the biodiversity of planet Earth.

1. Iberian Lynx

The Iberian lynx is a feline whose habitat is the Iberian Peninsula . Most of its diet is based on hunting rabbits, having difficulties to feed in any other way. The decrease in the rabbit population and the destruction of the forests in which it lives are its two main threats.

2. Ajolote

The axolotl is a unique highly endangered amphibian . It lives in certain lakes in Mexico, and in the Nahuatl language it means “aquatic monster”. However, it is completely harmless, and is an endangered animal with a more critical status.

3. Black rhino

The black rhinoceros is a critically endangered African mammal . It lives mainly in the southeastern part of the African continent, although there are some isolated populations elsewhere. It is the fourth largest mammal on this continent.

4. Gran Canaria Blue Chaffinch

The Gran Canaria blue finch is an endemic species of this island . It is a very small bird, no more than 17 cm. The chromatic characteristics of the male are what give the species its name, since it has bluish tones. On the contrary, the female has brown colors more similar to the house sparrow.

5. Leatherback sea turtle

The leatherback sea turtle is a reptile that lives in tropical or subtropical seas . It is the only turtle in its family, being an endangered species that can weigh more than 600 kilos. They feed on jellyfish, but plastic bags floating in the sea are sometimes thought to be jellyfish and this is causing high mortality.

6. California Condor

The California condor is a bird that inhabits the southwestern part of the United States . Its plumage is black in contrast to its head, which does not have any feathers. It is a very rare species that has less than 500 specimens, many of them in captivity.

7. Orangutan of Borneo

The Bornean orangutan is an ape that lives on the island of Borneo . Its natural habitat is disappearing at a dizzying rate, which has made this animal species endangered. This is due to the felling of forests to grow palm whose oil is very lucrative for the food industry.

8. Large Bamboo Lemur

The large bamboo lemur is an animal species that inhabits Madagascar . Its diet is exclusively based on bamboo, and little is known about its life. It is a very inconspicuous animal about which little is known, but it is one of the most endangered animals in the world.

9. Fire salamander

The fire salamander is an amphibian species native to Europe . It is not as at risk as other species on the list, and this is partly due to the fact that it lives in many places in Europe. However, it is a species that can suffer strong setbacks. Amphibians are the most vulnerable animals of all.

10. Tigre

The tiger, that great feline known to all, is also in danger of extinction . Most species are found in India, Bangladesh, Burma, Bhutan and Nepal. Despite the fact that it is the national animal of some of these countries and the admiration that these animals cause, most of the remaining specimens live in captivity.

11. White Shark

The great white shark is the most endangered shark in the world . It lives in the temperate waters of all the oceans. This animal has been represented in the world of cinema as a fearsome animal, and it can attack people. However, the cases are very isolated and there are even sharks that cause more human mortality.

12. Wounded by Darwin

Darwin’s frog is a very rare species of frog . It lives in Chile and Argentina, and has a very small size. It was named in honor of the great Charles Darwin, and it is one of the most endangered animals in the world, being its critical situation.
