Neurobion (drug): what it is, what it is for and contraindications

Dr. David DiesNovember 4, 2022November 6, 2022

We explain what this multivitamin complex is for.

Vitamins are necessary substances for our body, the vast majority of which we can not generate in our own body, saving some specific cases such as vitamin D or vitamin K. The rest of vitamins must necessarily be obtained from external sources, such as through food.

Neurobion is a multivitamin thatcontains several B vitamins. This group of vitamins participates in important functions of our body, such as the formation of new blood cells, the maintenance and repair of nerves, or the metabolism of some foods.

In this article we explain exactly what Neurobion is, as well as the uses and possible contraindications of this multivitamin complex.

Why take Neurobion?

Deficiency of some vitamin can cause serious health problems. Vitamin B deficiency is common among some groups, such as people over fifty, pregnant women, people with eating disorders such as anorexia or people with restricted food, such as celiacs and vegans.

The average person does not usually have to worry about maintaining healthy levels of vitamin B, since theseare found in a multitude of very common foods, such as meat, eggs, legumes, citrus fruits or some vegetables such as spinach. Even so, the vitamins of the B family are water-soluble, so if consumed in excess, they would be excreted through the urine without much difficulty.

Some of the disorders caused by vitamin B deficiency are:

  • Anaemia
  • Depression
  • Emotional volatility
  • Headaches
  • Memory problems
  • Hair loss
  • Fatigue
  • nerve damage
  • gestational deformities

In those cases where these disorders are caused or influenced by a vitamin B deficiency,  Neurobion can be a great help to alleviate the symptoms  or treat the root cause of the problem. A correct dose of vitamin B helps maintain the correct functioning of the muscles, nerves, heart and digestive system, as well as helping to maintain the population of leukocyte cells, which participate in the body’s immune defense.

Neurobion may help with inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, psychiatric conditions such as  depression caused by B12 deficiency , as well as disorders caused by nerve degeneration, which the B-family vitamins help repair.

Vitamin B supplementation is especially recommended for those with chronic inflammatory diseases such as arthritis,  pregnant women , people with celiac disease or Crohn’s disease, or those who maintain a smoking habit, which is bad for the peripheral nerves. .

Composition

Neurobion is a multivitamin complex that contains a mixture of three vitamins from the B family. They are as follows.

1. Vitamin B1

Vitamin B1, also called Thiamin, is used in the body for the correct functioning of the metabolism of carbohydrates, fatty acids and amino acids, specifically for its use as an energy source.

In addition, a correct amount of vitamin B1  helps maintain good heart health , while improving nerve health and improving our mood.

2. Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is necessary for the correct enzymatic functioning  of the organism, as well as it influences the correct development of the nervous system during infancy and pregnancy, in addition to promoting the formation of cells of the immune system.

Low levels of vitamin B6 can promote some cancers, certain cardiovascular diseases, or worsen cognitive function, memory, and emotional control.

3. Vitamina B12

Vitamin B12 is also necessary for the correct metabolism of proteins, as well as for the formation of red blood cells and the maintenance of the nervous system.

Vitamin B12 deficiencies,  common in people who start a vegan or vegetarian diet  without supplementing their intake, can cause fatigue, anemia, mood instability or sleep problems, in addition to cardiovascular problems.

This vitamin is also  of special interest for those women who take birth control pills , since apparently taking it decreases the levels of B12 in the body, so its supplementation could be beneficial in these cases.

Contraindications of Neurobion

Despite being a multivitamin complex that contains water-soluble vitamins that are easily excreted, there are certain  cases in which taking this supplement is not recommended , as it can be very harmful.

Some of these cases are, for example, people who suffer from:

  • Gastritis and/or ulcers
  • myocardial infarctions
  • Arrhythmia
  • Diabetes
  • hyperthyroidism
  • Renal insufficiency
  • liver diseases

It is also worth mentioning thatthis vitamin complex can interact with alcohol, hindering the absorption of vitamin B12. If a person suffers from alcoholism or their alcohol consumption is very high, they should refrain from taking this supplement.

There are also medications such as birth control pills, metformin or certain medications used to treat cancer, whichcan have negative health interactionswhen mixed with Neurobion.

Overall, taking this supplement is safe. Even so, especially if you suffer from a chronic disease or a disorder mentioned in this article, the smartest thing to do is to consult with your trusted doctor before introducing vitamin supplements into your diet.
